I come from a small family of four- just my parents and my younger brother. I was born and raised in a little town called Norton. I have lived in Wise County all of my life. I married my highschool sweetheart, Jimmy, and we have three beautiful children. Isaiah is ten. He is our oldest. He loves to read and faces any new challenge head-on. Our twins, Hannah and Abigail, are seven. They were a wonderful surprise and bring such joy to our family. Hannah is always willing to help and loves to cook. Abigail is our quiet one. She loves art and her smile can light up a room.
I have always harbored a keen interest in working with children in some capacity. My first encounter was as the nursery director of Norton Christian Church. This minsitry blessed me with the ability to to work with children from ages birth to five. As nursery director, I worked with volunteers to plant precious seeds about God. I also had to prepare the monthly schedule and yearly training for this ministry. Part of my responsiblity included preparing lessons each Sunday. I knew right away, this was my calling. I fell in love with the children and enjoyed seeing them learn.
The move towards a teaching degree is due in large part to my employment as a substitute teacher with Norton Elememtary Middle School where I gained both classrrom experience and valuable insight into education. I particularity appreciated the professionalism and caring attitude of the teachers. It was through futher communication with these skilled individuals that I adpoted a deep regard for the teaching profession as a whole. I am confident in my ability to apply my experiences and enthusiasm effectively to future teaching endeavors.
"Tell me and I will forget; show me and I may remember, involve me and I will understand."
